Gardeninginhell is a blog set up to promote successful gardening in the poor soil, miserable climate and constant drought of Central Texas. So, what experience do I have to even talk about it? Well, I’ve been a gardener in Central Texas for more than 30 years. I teach gardening, horticulture and urban farming for the Continuing Education program at Austin Community College. I have a Permaculture Design Certificate and both practice and teach the principles of permaculture. I’m the co-founder (with my lovely wife) of Neighborhood Harvest Project, who’s mission is “To promote healthy, local food and sustainable living through education and community gardening in Round Rock and surrounding areas.” I’m the garden maintenance manager for Unity Park Community Garden, the first public community garden in Round Rock. I’m also the operator of Wild Plum Valley Farm, my attempt to create a sustainable, self-sufficient homestead on my 1 acre of parched Texas ground…without breaking my back or my bank account. And Jeff is forever grateful to his beautiful and loving wife Lori. Too many times, the word “I” is used when it couldn’t have been done without her.
